coup gorge primary school

you may have read about Coup Gorge (Big Tree) in the blog, glory, glory! Coup Gorge is one of my favorite Haitian communities and the people there inspire me to love God deeper every time I visit.

Currently, there is one primary school in Coup Gorge. It is run by Pastor Bertin (left) and there are about 80 kids attending in kindergarten through sixth grade. Pastor Bertin has four other teachers on staff. Unlike most private Haitian schools, Coup Gorge does not require students to buy and wear uniforms, which is a blessing to many poor families. However, students feel more welcomed and culturally more accepted when they are wearing uniforms, so we are offering new students free uniforms!

Eternal Heart partnered with Vail Christian Academy’s Kindergarten and First grade classes this fall to fundraise for the students of Coup Gorge. To start, we are using funds to pay the salaries of the teaching staff. My prayer and goal for this school and this project is to secure the salaries of all the teachers for the rest of the school year. There are five teachers at the school and one principal. Each teacher should receive $40 USD a month, and the principal $50 USD a month. That is $250 total a month to employ the entire teaching staff. Then, we want to begin improvements in the school building: make school benches, a solid roof, maybe even some real walls. So much of education depends on our learning environment.

It is a humble little school, but one that is making a difference in the community. I want to support teachers so they can support children so they can support their families. It all matters. Thank you for being a part of something that matters!
